We Believe...

... in the infallibility of the Word of God.

Bible Translations

Different translations may have an occasional "translation error" (although in practice these are generally very minor) or slight variation in a shade of meaning to each other.

No particular translation is considered to be, of itself, infallible, but is considered most useful the closer it is to the meaning intended in the original languages.

infallibility is claimed for the
original text, not for a
particular translation

The Bible in our Meetings

Revival Centres meetings always use the Bible.

For consistency, in Revival Centre meetings we use the King James Version of the Bible when publicly expounding or talking from the Bible.

This allows people to follow directly the particular part of scripture being quoted.

While this is an older version, and the occasional word may seem archaic, it is considered to be a version that has stood the test of time, being used in the English-speaking world for 400 years.

Being a direct translation (not a paraphrase translation) also makes it, in our view, a more valuable translation.

Revival Centres members own a variety of translations for personal use.

Is Church Tradition Equal to Scripture?

Some hold the teachings of church bodies, councils and other writings down through history in equal esteem to the Bible.

We do not.

At best, where such teachings amplify the truths in Scripture they may be helpful to some. Unfortunately, at worst, these teachings are plainly in contradiction to the teachings of the Bible. Sorting out what is correct and what is incorrect in these later teachings has not been a fruitful exercise.

We have found that a simple, faithful approach to the Bible itself has yielded great blessing. We see this approach as best - and certainly the one that God Himself has directly blessed to us.

From the Bible...

...Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.
Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
Matthew 15:6-9
