We Believe...
...the Gospel
of His death, resurrection
The Gospel
The word 'gospel' simply means the 'good message'.
In the four gospels in the Bible (Matthew, Mark,
Luke and John) the good news of the birth, life, ministry, death
and resurrection of Jesus Christ is told. An overview of this
is set out in our section on Jesus.
In Acts chapter two, in the Bible, we read the Apostle
Peter's directive in response to the good news of Jesus. You can
read about that in the next section.

His death
He knew He was to die. The prophets had foreshadowed
the sacrifice He was to make.
When John the Baptist met Jesus for the first time
he said: "Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin
of the world." This description had a specific meaning. In
the Old Testament of the Bible God had used animal sacrifice (including
lambs) as a means of teaching His nation Israel about the consequence
of sin.
The Bible tells us that we have all sinned (Romans
3:23). Sin always results in death (Romans
6:23). In the Old Testament, God allowed the death of
animals to be a temporary substitute for this death.

However, this animal sacrifice did not solve the underlying problem.
Paul the Apostle explains in Hebrews
10, in the Bible, that animal sacrifice was not sufficient
to take away sin.
God had ordained a perfect sacrifice, one that would
be sufficient for all mankind for those that accepted it. That
sacrifice was Jesus Himself.
Because all have sinned, and sin always leads to death, we have
a great need for a Saviour. Jesus is that Saviour. He died on
behalf every human being, including you.

His Resurrection
The empty tomb of Jesus is the pivotal fact of Christianity.
All the claims Jesus made were vindicated in this one fact that
sets Christianity apart from all religions.

He is risen...
The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit raised Jesus
from the dead (Romans
8:11).
The Bible also tells us, in the same place, that
that same Spirit now lives inside us. See

From the Bible
And they crucified him...
Matthew
27:35
Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice,
yielded up the ghost [died].
Matthew
27:50
And the angel answered and said unto the women,
Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the
place where the Lord lay.
And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen
from the dead...
Matthew
28:5-7
And as they went to tell his disciples, behold,
Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held
him by the feet, and worshipped him.
Matthew
28:9
